DWARF PALMETTO (Sabal minor)

The northernmost palm in the Americas

This species grows farther north than any other palm in the Americas, and is the second northernmost palm in the world, surpassed only by the Mediterranean fan palm. Despite being among the most cold-hardy palms, tolerating temperatures of −20 °C without difficulty, it is remarkable how tropical this small palm can look when grown in a shaded location and provided with abundant water.
