The northernmost palm treep

Of all palms, the Mediterranean fan palm is the one that has populations closest to the North Pole. In fact, it is the only recognized palm species that has natural populations in continental Europe, growing on the Mediterranean coasts of Spain, Italy, and France. The northernmost known populations have been found at Hyères (France) at latitude 43° 07′ N, and on the island of Capraia (Italy) at latitude 43° 04′ N.

Description: Multi-stemmed, dioecious palm, up to 8 meters, with a trunk covered by fibers and remains of leaves, palmate green leaves 90 cm long, yellowish green inflorescence and orange fruits.
