
Habitat: Open forests, dry areas and rocky or well-drained soils.
Distribution: Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and some islands of the Lesser Antilles.
Description: Single-stemmed palm, up to 15 metres tall, with an impressive smooth grey trunk up to 70 cm in diameter, costapalmate leaves up to 2 metres long, strongly arching, and hanging inflorescences that exceed the length of the leaves and produce small black fruits.
