PRINCE WINDMILL PALM (Trachycarpus princeps)

The most majestic windmill palm

Standing out for the showy silver tone of the petiole and the underside of its leaves, this is undoubtedly the most exclusive and majestic of all the windmill palms. Discovered in 1993 on a few rocky cliffs in remote inland areas of China near the Burmese border, this palm has quickly become one of the most coveted by hardy palm enthusiasts and collectors, not least given its unique beauty.

Habitat: On cliffs in river canyons at 1,500-2,000 meters above sea level.

Distribution: Salween River Basin.

Description: Single-trunked, dioecious palm, up to 10 meters tall, with a trunk covered with fibers from the ligules of the leaves, palmate leaves of a dark green color on the upper side and covered with whitish wax on the underside up to 1.50 meters long, pale inflorescence and small black fruits.
