21,10

A palm tree isolated from the rest

This original palm tree is the one that grows in the westernmost region of Australia within its genus, and is also the only palm tree on the continent that grows in a desert region. This makes it, within the Livistona genus, a unique species due to its resistance to heat and the bluish color of its leaves that serves as protection against excessive insolation.

Habitat: Banks and edges of lagoons and ponds.

Distribution: Western Australia.

Description: Single-trunked, dioecious palm, up to 12 meters tall, trunk with remains of the leaves, slightly costapalmate, bluish-green leaves 1.5-2 meters long, yellow basal inflorescence and small brown to black globose fruits.
