The most tropical-looking date palm
Among the date palms, this is undoubtedly the most tropical in all aspects. On the one hand, it is the one that withstands less both cold and drought, compared to its congeners typically adapted to desert areas, although it has a some level of tolerance. On the other hand, it has a remarkable appearance, with a slim and clean trunk, and stylish tender deep green leaves.
Habitat: Cliffs and moist montane forest.
Distribution: Manas River Basin.
Description: Single-trunked, dioecious palm, up to 8 meters tall, with a trunk with bulging scars from fallen leaves, intense green pinnate leaves 3 meters long, yellow interfoliar inflorescence and small orange dates.
