
Habitat: Rocky sandstone and limestone slopes, from 1,600 to 2,100 metres above sea level.
Distribution: Northeastern India and adjoining areas of Myanmar.
Description: Single-stemmed palm, up to 15 metres tall, with a bare trunk featuring a distinctive “tortoiseshell” pattern, thick dark green palmate leaves with a white, waxy underside, spiny petioles and yellow fruits that darken as they mature.
