ROSEI PALMETTO (Sabal rosei)

The Sabal of the Pacific coast

Sabal rosei is an elegant palm from western Mexico, where it grows in tropical dry and seasonally dry forests. Its silhouette is particularly distinctive due to the contrast between its slender trunk and compact crown of deeply costapalmate leaves, which can arch to form an almost spherical canopy. Interestingly, it was for a long time closely associated with Sabal pumos, to the point that distinguishing between the two species requires particular attention to their fruits and seeds.
