FAN PALM OF THE ATLAS (Chamaerops humilis var cerifera)

The blue palm of the mountains

Of all the varieties of Mediterranean fan palm cultivated, the fan palm of the Atlas is the only one with known natural populations. These are found in the foothills of the High Atlas, in the interior of Morocco and the border with the Sahara. The combination of the climate found in that region, cold due to the altitude and dry due to its proximity to the desert, make this variety of impressive metallic blue leaves an even more hardy and resistant plant than its green relative.
