A truly delicious palm
In India, the juices of the stem, flowers and fruits are extracted from this beautiful palm tree, which reminds many of the Canary Islands date palm but with silver leaves and much faster growth. These juices, in addition to multiple benefits for heart health and the treatment of fevers and vomiting, are consumed as soft drinks, but also used to obtain jellies, sweeteners and alcoholic beverages.
Habitat: Monsoon plains and scrub.
Distribution: Southern Pakistan and most of India.
Description: Single stem, dioecious palm, up to 15 meters tall, with a slender trunk covered by the foliar bases, silver-colored pinnate leaves 2.5-3 meters long, whitish inflorescence and small orange to red dates.
