Watercolor on lithography, Fries Bruyères Du Casse (1834)

Beautiful hand-colored illustration, included in the “Dictionnaire pittoresque d’histoire naturelle et des phénomènes de la nature” (Volume 6, table 447), by Felix-Edouard Guerin Meneville. Several specimens of Attalea sp. Are depicted, scattered throughout the landscape. Under one of them, a small group of Spanish conquistadors seems to rest and admire the landscape, probably the northwest of the Amazon. On the left corner, we see an isolated specimen of Geonoma.
