RIO GRANDE PALMETTO (Sabal mexicana)

The hat palm

Sabal mexicana is one of the most widespread palms in Mexico and is known in some regions as the hat palm, referring to the traditional use of its large leaves to make hats, mats and other fibre products. Its robustness and remarkable ability to adapt to both dry periods and wet soils have made it one of the most versatile Sabal species, as well as an especially resilient palm in cultivation.
