SAW PALMETTO (Serenoa repens)

A medicinal palm

This small palmetto, besides being an original palm that is very resistant to cold, is a medicinal plant. Its active ingredient is found in the lipidosterolic extract of its ripe fruits, which have antiandrogenic and antiestrogenic action. That is, they inhibit the action of sex hormones. This extract is included as an active ingredient in medications against benign prostatic hyperplasia, and in anti-hair loss shampoos for women.
