
Habitat: No natural populations exist.
Distribution: Fruit-bearing cultivated variety originating in the Middle East.
Description: Single-stemmed or occasionally multi-stemmed palm, up to 25–30 metres tall, with a trunk 40–60 cm in diameter, stiff pinnate leaves up to 5 metres long, narrow leaflets arranged in several planes, long spines at the base of the leaves and fleshy yellow, orange or reddish fruits, the well-known dates.
